Best of all it’s an antique so no FFL is required. This is a Great Mauser to add to your Military Collection. The metal finish looks impressive, the wood is in nice shape and the bore is strong & bright. The rifle has a beautiful Chilean crest on the receiver and an intact Chilean crest on the stock that is dated “1898”. The rifle has matching numbers on the receiver, bolt, bottom metal, stock and cleaning rod. The rifle is in Excellent condition with great markings on the metal and wood.
Our Assessment: This Chilean Mauser Model 1895 Rifle was made in Germany for Chile just after Loewe and Company became part of DWM, Deutsche Waffen-Und Munitionsfabriken, in 1897. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition as an antique. The metal shows other scuffs & light handling marks. The barrel shows light scrapes & handling marks. The trigger guard shows small scrapes & a few scratches. The right rear of the receiver shows a small amount of oxidation and a few small dimples in the metal. Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish.
The stock rates in about Fine Plus condition as an antique.īore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The LOP measures 13 1/2 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The wood shows light scrapes, small scratches & compression marks. An area of pin prick surface erosion shows through the cold blue. The buttplate has been treated with cold blue. Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a straight grip, nosecap, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band, two sling loops and a metal buttplate. A separate sliding “V” notched blade is used for the sight ladder.
When flipped up it becomes a sliding sight ladder marked from “5-20”. The rear sight is a “V” notched blade in the down position.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is an inverted “V” post set atop a small base. The left side of the buttstock is marked with a Chilean crest and the date “1898” below it.
The top of the grip, bottom of the grip, bottom of the butt and left side of the stock (below the serial number) are each marked with a small Chilean stamping. Most of the metal parts are marked with small Chilean stampings. The bottom metal and the rear of the bolt body (twice) are each marked with the last two digits of the serial number. The bolt handle, the left side of the stock below the receiver, the bottom metal and the cleaning rod are all marked with the serial number. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, two proofs and “MAUSER CHILENO MODELO 1895 / DEUTSCHE WAFFEN-UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN / BERLIN”. The top of the receiver is marked with the Chilean Crest. Markings: There is no visible import mark.
